This is what I would do to a used block..

A new block should not need to have the cylinder walls or Deck the surface for the head...

Balance the crank for the new pistons... If they are stock, then the new block should be within tolerance already.

If it's for a forged build then yes, but get the cylinders trued only to the size of the new pistons.

Any more and you run the risk of piston slap or compression burning out the rings..

yeah, you really have to watch what a shop considers a "rebuild." to me, it has always meant new down to the pistons and rods and usually a cylinder bore or resleeve to clean it up.

to a lot of people, a rebuild is just a hone, new rings, and new gaskets.

I was planning on picking up a brand new zero mile block from protegegarage

so i just need to rebalnce the crank with my new forged pistons and rods? Bore out the cylinders cuz i have arias 8.5:1 .020 overbore that i plan on swaintech coat.
all that other stuff i don't need to do right?

would probably be a lot cheaper to find a used block and get the other stuff done. No need to pay the big bucks for something like that if you'll be "rebuilding it" anyway.
