Transmission and Differential oil

Mazda specify GL class and viscosity.

For Transmission use Redline MT90
Rear Differential Redline 75W90

Manual transmission oil 1.8 QT
Rear differential oil 1.4 QT

Redline MT90 does meet Mazda's specs.
The manual states to fill to the level of the fill hole (for both). Fill it til it drools out, then you're done.

Remember these are crush washers so its necessary to get new washers when doing this service.

I plan to change my spark plugs and I have never changed them. I have the stock ones that was put in after I got my car reflashed for flooding. The dealer change the spark plugs, battery, etc to prevent from flooding during cold start.

What is an upgrade from the stock ones to give me a little more performance and also I was reading on colder heat range? I am not familiar with this so any helpful recommendations will be much appreciated.

Colder plugs are great for turbo applications however the stock plugs will work JUST PERFECT in any non turbo RX8

if you are worried about going with a cooler plug just use all 4 trailing plugs

the only problem is the rx8 plugs are CRAZY pricey..

I have heard of people using the RX7 plugs with success

otherwise OEM is a

NGK
6700 (RE7C-L) - Leading (lower)
6701 (RE9B-T) - Trailing (upper)

which I stock u need 2 of each

Riken you want to add your info on plugs above good SIR!

Quote
"Colder plugs can help resist pre-ignition.
In general, you want to run the coldest plug you can that wont foul.
You wont make more power, though.
On a rotary motor, because of the plug design and location, it is less likely to be a source of pre-ignition"

i would only use colder plugs on a turbo setup.

exactly on a non turbo just run the stock plugs... on a turbo application running all 4 trailing plugs is a great option.

Now how about an alternate source of power, perhaps Nitrous will having colder plugs be better even though you will not have constant spray at all times?

What is trailering plugs compared to stock or colder plugs?

SpooledupRacing

you have 4 spark plugs in your engine

there is 2 leadings and 2 trailing plugs

the trailing plugs go on top
the leading plugs go on bottom

the trailing plugs are cooler plugs (only used for emission purposes)

if u run a boosted motor it is recomended to use all 4 trailing plugs

on a No2 system you just need to tune for the stock plugs

Found this under a Nitrous website: www.zex.com

Q: Do I have to change my spark plugs after installing the nitrous system?

A: YES, Due to the increase in horsepower the nitrous system creates, the quantity of heat generated in the combustion chamber goes up. It is required that you install spark plugs that have at least two steps colder heat range. This helps to ensure detonation free performance when using the nitrous system. ZEX™ has nitrous specific spark plugs available for many makes and models of vehicles.

Any insight?

rotaryies are different then piston engiens if u run colder plugs on a non turbo car u will eventually have hard starting, fouling, and flooding..

just say no to NOS

I really appreciate this info Dave and Riken about the cold plugs. Now Dave would having the colder plugs be ok during summer time use only and having the hotter on during the winter? I mean changing plugs isn't that hard so is it ok to run the colder ones to keep omptimum temperature?

SpooledupRacing

no the plugs have nothing to do with ambient temps...

the plug heat range is to do with the spark..

again I think the concensos leans to on a rotary use the standard plugs unless force inducted otherwise u may run into problems with flodding, hard starts

Do you sell plugs for rx8 or just the 7?

SpooledupRacing
08-28-2008, 10:14 AM
no I stock the plugs for the 8... they are just super pricey....

I have heard of rx8 guys using the rx7 plugs (heat range is the same) and price is SO MUCH LOWER...

for the cost I would almost try those and see what happens..

4 RX8 plugs = 85 shipped

4 RX7 plugs = 35.00 shipped

How much more expensive are the bigger filters? If it cost more do you benefit with bigger oil filters rather than normal size ones?

That is a considerable difference in prices. I wonder if the sizes are indentical or close in size. Would hate it if was loose and lose spark.

nope I have all those plugs here...

physically same size

and as for the bigger filter the only gain is u can hold more oil

I use the stock ones... the numbers I added on the bootom the beck or Nippon filters are best (nippon/full) are oem mazda made

Wouldn't another benefit to bigger oil filters so that more debris will be "filtered" more?

Do you have a DIY diff oil change? I have not done that yet. But I have done the tranny when I replaced my clutch to a Stage 3. Also do you have information about when/how many miles before next service tranny and diff oil changes?

I took it to get changed. Time is a killer for me sometimes. But its really easy. Let me find a site that has great info. I might just create a new thread on this.
