I used to live near St. Louis....grew up in Benton/Herrin/West Frankfort IL. Had a chance to see a few Cardinal games growing up and watch the 4th of July fireworks from the banks of the Mississippi River under the arch.

Funny how small the world is. For as messed up as it is, I really love living in St. Louis. We're in the suburbs so the whole Murder Capital of the US thing doesn't really affect me much.

Ya, you really know it is a small world when you go to Myrtle Beach on vaca with your in-laws and the second day there your father-in-law runs into someone he knows and hasn't seen for years.

Happened to us one time too, but in Disneyworld. We're standing in line to get tickets and my mom runs into one of her relatives from Kentucky.

I've surmised that every day I'm alive, the world shrink a little bit more.

Hey the city's safe too, just have to avoid certain parts. I am in the city and have a white P5.

I'll keep an eye put for you.

Also, don't get me wrong, I don't fear the city. And I agree that, for the most part it is safe. Overall I think it's received a bad rap.

I actually work Right across the street from the Tap Room, so I'm pretty much on the far edge of the area they visited in the first Vacation movie. (Contrary to popular belief, they went to North St. Louis, not East St. Louis). And while I'd consider this area to be pretty safe, I know a ton of people who've had their cars broken into in broad daylight. I've never come in on a Monday and not found broken glass in the street by one of the parking meters.

And, as I said before, I love the city and have high hopes that one day we can pull a Nashville or Indianapolis and revive our downtown.

I don't really know what my point was other than to say, thanks for the response and I didn't want you to think I'm one of those west county types that won't venture downtown except for Day Baseball games cause they're scared.

No it's cool. I just meet far too many people who think all of St. Louis City is crazy crime. As long as you are aware of your surroundings, you should be okay. Are you talking about the Schlafly Tap Room? That's not too far from me. Anyway, good to hear from someone in the area with a level head about things.

Some people on 24/7 were talking about a local meet on the 11th of Oct.

Thanks for the heads up. I left my comment and it looks like my 11th is clear... And then I just double checked and I'm supposed to be at Trout Lodge that weekend. Crap! Well, i'll figure something out.
