OK I just wanted to get a feel for what the community likes.. there are so MANY different reasons why one series is better then the other etc.. however instead of just asking "which rx7 do u like best" lets get a bit more detailed and really find out WHY.. then give your best.

FB:
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2042/1622737825_7292a0fc82.jpg?v=0
PROS:
I love these cars, they are light, VERY SPORTY, backward hood FTW!!
and a good tuned 12a in a FB will be faster in a dead out run with an FC day in and day out.

CONS:
they suspension was nice, but laxcked alot (which they fixed in the next gens)
Carb... I HATE CARBS

Rotor housings.. this was before they got GOOD at making rotor housings.. the housings had the o-rings embeded in the housing instead of the irons. they ALWAYS look BAD when they are torn down and they chome flaking is horrible.

FC (S4 86-88)
http://img517.imageshack.us/img517/8342/cammay006nm3.gif
Pros:
Very nice nible car, handles FANTASTIC, a bit sportier then the FB, fuel injection was a great thing and some models had LSD

Cons:
S4 secondary ports were bad, then tend to stick or not function at all
catalictic convertors... seriously they dont need SIX
the square tails looked out of date IMO
HEAVY
plastic breaking dash components
we dont need stock adjustable suspension

FC (S5 89-92)
http://www.fbodybrothel.com/MoozdaPage.jpg
Pros:
same nimble car as the S4, still handles great, UPDATED TAILS FTW, updated mirors, updated front and rear bumpers, updated interior, updated rubber radio surround, VDC IS A GOOD THING
better stock spoiler

Cons:
Heavy
S5 OMP is a nightmare
stock adjustable suspension was not needed
I dont like the body color trim

FD:
http://static.howstuffworks.com/gif/autoreview/400x266/1993-95-Mazda-RX-7-93807051990211.jpg
Pros:
they took styling to the nest level with this car, the interior design was great, the exterior is awsome, TWIN TURBOS!!! WOOT, all the different handling packages and interior choices, better housings

cons:
Twin turbos... great idea but boy those motors hated it
cheesey platic breaking trim pieces
HEAVY HEAVY HEAVY
body roll
cooling IMO was not up to par

so I hate them as follows
1 = horrible 10 = best ever

FB: 6
S4 FC: 7
S5 FC: 8
FD: 9

IMO if you want a GREAT FX7 go with an FC.. save the money and dont go FD
If you got the money go FD (but buy a car with 50K or less if possible)

if you want a track car.. go FB add some suspension upgrades, crazy carb or try and find an 85' GSL-SE

so whats your opinion

i love my s4 FC turbo II. i would like to have an R1, but they just aren't reliable enough for me. mine goes in this order;

FB 4
s4 FC 8
s5 FC 7
FD 8

i considered a lot of factors here. i, for one, like the square tails on the s4. i am the only one i am sure.

WOW its to bad u dont have S5 tails Wes.. I would trade ya for my minty s4 tails.

Sounds like the FC is a fan favorite..

by looks I would take an FD but for the raw feel and the car I love the FC

my list goes...
#1 - FD <- just sooo dang sexy
#2 - FB <- so simple, to bad they have a solid rear axel :(
#3 - FC <- only advantage this model has is being offered in convertible guise - i dont care to much for the styling, i find them rather bland

you know the FB did come with CV shafts.. on the GSL-SE if I remember right..

the swap is very easy.

and I owned an 89 vert.. trust me it is WAY to heavy to enjoy

so, an FB "Can" be had with independent rear? interesting...

my dream build project car would be a 99-00 miata with a 13b swap

exactly. the FD feels so much bigger and heavier. i just don't like the way that it drives. i would also take the FC for the fact that the turbo FC is more reliable than the turbo FD.

i saw a beautiful 96-ish miata with a 13b turbo swap. there wasn't anything stock about the car, so even if you didn't like that year, it wouldn't matter. i will try to find it later if everyone can keep the drool off of their keys when they see it.

Call me rice, but FD just for looks alone!

Although a Miata with a rotary swap makes me happy in pants too

Almost bought a FD at wholesale price when I worked at carmax. It drove okish, and had been rattle can painted black. It was stupid cheap, but I had nowhere to restore it.

DUDE! I am so happy you posted this! I actually was going to PM you the other day to ask what you thought about the Pros and cons of rotaries in all your experience because I am really thinking of picking up one as a project.

You must have ESP! Great info!

i've seen a couple, and it just "looks" right when you open the hood.

What is it abotu the FD u like the best Chaz?

I've had 'em all, the the FD is by far the most fun.
The SA I used to have was kind of a beater, but it helped get me hooked on Wankel power. The suspension was pretty...antiquated, though, even in the '90's. Fun car for the money, and definitely underrated little beasts these days.

My S5 was a blast in that you could beat the crap out of it and not have to worry..parts are cheap and easy to come by, and the inherant oversteer is good fun! FCs can be made FAST pretty cheaply, and they're great looking IMO. If I didn't get such a good deal on my FD, I'd still be loving my 91.

BUT

The FD is just plain quicker. The seats may just be the best I've even sat in, the perfect 50/50 weight distribution is noticeable, The plethora of JDM parts available is mind boggling, and the styling speaks for itself. Just the other day, I had a guy in a Ferrari ask me what kind of car I was driving. Yeah, stock they are easy to blow up, but they've been around long enough now that there are some great FD resources, and plenty of reliability upgrades that can be done for fairly cheaply to keep your FD happy. Dual oil coolers and an upgraded radiator & IC go a long way in keeping things cool and reliable. :)

200 pounds isn't THAT big of a difference between the FC and FD's curbweights.
FD 2822
FC 2625

also: Mazda made 470,000 1st gens, 270,000 2nd gens and 69,000 3rd gens. Rarity and resale value is where the FD will always be the favorite 7.

My opinion is based on the interior and exterior styling cues of the car. However I cannot make an opinion on the handling, performance, and reliability because I have never owned and rx7. I have rode in your Turbo and extremely large street-ported rx7 FC and it is faster than my Natural Aspirated rx8.

IMO it just comes down to what u are looking for..

IMO EVERY series feels and rides much different then the other.
