Palringo is an instant messaging client for many mobile platforms (and PCs) that allows you to stay connected to your friends and family on the go. You can use it as your client for AIM, MSN, Google Talk, etc but they also provide their own services in the form of push to talk, chats, and community groups.

I know a couple people on here use palringo so I set up a themazdaforum.com palringo group. The group name is "themazdaforum.com" --join it today! You can use it to exchange pictures, push to talk messages, and chat with the whole group :)

Palringo is supported on:
- iPhone (iPod touch too perhaps?)
- Blackberry
- Windows Mobile
- Windows XP/Vista
- OS X Leopard
- Symbian
- Java platforms (almost all mobile phones not listed above).

To download directly from your phone, visit www.palringo.mobi

Is this the official off-website communication device.

kansei

well it's about as official as can be. Basically the only way something would be "unofficial" is if it doesn't have pdhaudio83, focus, or myself as the admin.

we're on flickr and facebook and other places too :)

Are you guys able to join the group? It was quick to create it so I figure it'll just let you join magically. I don't have their mac client.. maybe I should try it out. I just use it on my phones.

I do think it requires Leopard. Probably not worth upgrading to leopard over (nothing that leopard provides is really worth paying for sadly).

I updated the first post to reflect this. I really hope they do include Tiger support, it's really lame to release software only supporting the latest revision. I could see not supporting things older than Tiger (as tiger came out over 3 years ago) but.. bah.

It's in Alpha stage right now so it's probably really buggy anyway.

I use Trillian mostly. So far, I'm not too impressed with this Palringo. Trillian appears to do everything Palringo does- maybe not as many services supported.

kansei

well for one trillian doesn't support the palringo service, which is what this is all about. This is about using the tmf group on there, for chatting and group distribution of pics and push to talk stuff.

I don't know of any other IM service that offers that sort of thing across so many platforms.

Trillian will support 4- AOL, MSN, Yahoo and ....... one other. You can set up groups on there.

So far, I can see that you are the admin and are offline. Other than that, nothing.

I <3 the palm OS. the java one won't work? Did you go to www.palringo.mobi in the Blazer web browser?

I could try with my treo but I don't feel like getting out the tool to remove my sim card from my new phone

so far, totally not impressed.

I'm not impressed with it as an IM client for doing all my day to day IM stuff but that isn't what this thread is about. No other IM services offer this sort of group thing for sharing audio/pics/messages

other than of course an e-mail mailing list or newsgroup :P

Or a forum......

Or a forum......

shhh

forum does not equal chat, which is really all this gives us. Anything else is only useful for mobile phone use

edit: oh yeah.. and there's a handful of good flash-based chat clients that integrate well with vbulletin, but all the decent ones are pay. I think one was quite cheap ($5-ish).. I'll have to play around with it tomorrow.

ya it tells me "unfortunately we can't recognise your device or it isn't on our supported list at the moment.

Try a different phone browser or check the Palringo website for updates as we regularly add new devices to the support list."

This is using the blazer browser... :(

There's a small group of Saturn guys that I've been getting online with and chatting for the passed.... 4 or 5 years. We're on Tuesday and Thursday nights. We use mIRC. Some people have had issues getting connected, but once you get it all figured out, I haven't had any problems.

oh no doubt I'd love to do it via IRC because then people can use any client they want.

It's an option to explore. The FlashChat I've used on another vbulletin forum is nice because it is integrated (signs you in automatically) but not so nice because it requires flash player.

Perhaps a flash-based IRC client locked to an IRC server / room to have the best of both worlds...

AZMC's??

yup. I think the one they use is the $5 one too. The only real drawback is that it won't work on most mobile platforms.
