View Full Version : CEL: P1170 code?

I pulled a CEL about 3 weeks ago (a couple of hours after installing a j-pipe, mid-pipe, my MPI and a wideband, and doing some light tuning). Finally got to get the code scanned a couple of days ago, and it's a P1170. After some reading, I saw that the 1.6L Protegés had a problem with leaning out and a PCM flash helped, but I don't think that applied to my 2.0L engine.
Called my dealership this morning, and they said it's either an evap code (getting some air in the fuel, due to a loose gas cap...something I'll check tonight), or an EGR issue, even though my idle is very smooth.
Anyone else out there ever have this code and have some insight?

isn't that an oxygen sensor heater circuit code? *looks around*
check the wiring on your oxygen sensors (other than the wideband)

^I thought it would be an O2 sensor myself since that's the only thing we played with that could cause a CEL, except maybe running lean or something from the tune (doubtful since I'm running rich most of the time as it is...), but Mazda said otherwise. Any info would be helpful.
What would I be looking for in terms of wiring? I know we clicked it in properly to the harness. Is it possible that the wiring could be damaged though?
Also, I'm pretty sure we put the wideband sensor AFTER the stock O2 sensor, but do you think having them close to one another could affect anything?

anything with the wiring.. could have a short in it, may be a wiring problem inside the sensor itself (how old are your sensors?)

7 years, 182,000kms...I wouldn't at all be surprised if taking it out of the old j-pipe damaged it somehow. I had already come to mind that I might need to get a new one as soon as I saw the CEL come up...
