I can't find the thread, but I know there was one created before about the topic. I'm trying to figure out the best place to splice in the power for the gauges. I think I remember reading that behind the dimmer switch is a good place..

do you want switched power, or are you looking for illumination when the lights turn on?
you can tap into the cig lighter socket for switched power, and i think the dimmer switch if you want illumination switching with the lights.

Yep. Switched power for the main gauge power and dimmer switch for the back lighting power. Or you can just power both from the switched power- the gauge light will be on whenever the ignition is on though.

So if I tap into the dimmer switch, will the gauges display their readings without the lights on?

Yup, but, if I you run with your foglights or your headlights during the day, you'll want to run the gauges to a seperate switch you can control manually, as the gauges in "night mode" will be difficult to see during the daytime
