Ok..I have almost everything out of the car to pull the3 motor...and After reading the Mazda Service manual..They tell you jack Crap on how to release the Fuel lines.

I know on my Fords..You have to have the Fuel line Adapters to release the clip...How do these come apart?
Do they Need a Special tool?
If so..Where do I get it?

I need to know how to do both..One has an Orange CLip....And one has a Blue.

Also..ANy other tricky items you can think of giving tips on..Feel free to do so.

I'd like to get this motor out tonight or tomorrow if possible.

LMK guys.
THanks

the fuel line at the firewall? (where it goes from steel to rubber?)

ForceFed

No..At the rail....And on the return from the rail...Should I be taking it apart somewhere else?

doesnt matter, you open the box, and pull IIRC....

no special tools.

Yeah..I flipped the box open..But it seems like there should be something else to release it...Pulling it seems like its still a bit firm.

N/M..I got it..Those COlored clips..are just that..the lock clips.
You bend them down and you can release the fuel lines.
But just FYI..they dont just "Pull" off in case anyone else asks.
You have to release the clips while pulling..or you will break the clips.

there's two different styles. the fuel rail ones and the ones at the firewall. its easy to get them confused in HOW they come off :)

glad you figured it out.

Now I cant get the Tranny linkage loose...I think Its just seized.
I got the bolt out of the Stabilzer bar for the linkage(the one with the bushing we all replace) and I got the Nut off the Shifter linkage at the tranny..but the Bolt just wont budge....Did I miss something?

It has been a VERY long time since I have been under a protege like this...My sppeed was the last one I was under working on like this.
I have had this apart before..I know it...But I cant for the life of me remember if there is a trick for this thing.
I soked it in Rust buster to see if it helps tomorrow.
Any input here?

It takes FOREVER to get out.... you and me both! You'll just have to play with it for a while... you will get it...

Haha, it took me like 30minutes. I've taken my tranny out twice... I swear, THIS is the biggest bitch besides raising the tranny to reinstall it.

Thats cool...I want to make sure we are talking about tha same bolt..The one with the Square head that goes through the Universal style shift linkage joint at the ranny.

I am actually pulling the Engine and Tranny as one...and re-installing the same way...Hell with seperpating while in the Car.
Now another Question..If I pull the Spindle out of the ball joint on each side...Will that give me enough room to pull the axles out of the tranny...Or am I gonna have to remove more?
If so..What else?

pdhaudio83

yep!!!! same one man!

how could i forget, its the only damn square head bolt that needs to come off to drop the trans!

Yes, you'll have to fight with it, but there is BARELY enough room

Agh..you pulled your axles differently than I was thinking..Maybe I will go that route?
YOur way is more bolts..but it really gets out of the way.

Any Chance you have the Engine Rebuild Specs...Or a place I can source it through PDF?
..or even Order it (Buy it)...

The Mazda Service Manual doesn't have any of the Technical info for the machine Shop.

You won't get the axles out any other way (unless you want to do a lot more work) but to do it the way I did (trust me...)

Nothing on engine specs... no idea on PDF... I think hardcopy only from the dealer... $30 IIRC?

IIRC, 247 had it SOMEWHERE, don't have it bookmarked though (ha, that'd be sad if I did, i don't eat that many motors)

Well..Unfortunately..I cant Search 247 until tomorrow night..I am still on my Ban....Bunch of Damn BS if you ask me..but W/E.
I know Focus got me the PDF for the tranny rebuild..I was hoping there was one for the Engine.
This is something mazda actually sells..Like a supplement to the Service Manual?
I know Focus' PDF the other day was from Mitchell..IIRC.
I might call my buddy over at the shop and see what they would do to get info if they needed it and try that route.
If I find a PDF..I will be sure to Get the link here for Tecnical Info in the How to section.
I will also get you the one focus gave me tomorrow or this weekend to put it somewhere where it can be of use as well.

How do you actually create a PDF file from a Boook..Any clue?
You have to have a full version of Adobe dont you?

Supplement, yes. I have the trans rebuild as well, and wiring, but no PDF engine manual.

took me days to build my page to what it is...

LOL!
Hey..and BTW..THe Black Item right above the Tranny linkage on the top of the tranny..Is That is a "DUMMY" sensor?
WTH...I unplugged that plug only to find it was empty inside..Only plastic...What is that plug for..An Auto?

pdhaudio83

its the speed sensor! if your car has ABS, it uses the ABS and then yes, it'd be a dummy. If no ABS (like me) its the speed sensor

If you have ABS you probably won't have a speedo gear. I know the 1.8 with ABS still had a speedo gear but that's a totally different transmission.

ANyone else done the LSD swap into a P5 tranny..?
I would really like to knoe for sure if my car uses the ABS for the speedo or if in fact it drives the speedo by a gear ibn the tranny?

pdhaudio83

If the car has ABS, it is 100% using THAT as the speed sensor.

Same with the MSP... it has ABS... it uses THAT as the speed sensor.

The only cars that use the tranny as a speedo are NON ABS (MP3/2001/some 2002) proteges. IIRC all p5s have ABS.

Not exactly. 99/00 Proteges with ABS still use the speedo gear (but the FP-DE doesn't use the same transmission as the FS). Protege5s don't have ABS standard (in the U.S., in Canada yes).

I thought sure the P5 had it standard...

either way, if he has ABS, it will use that on the P5.

I wish the P5 had it standard :P It was a package deal abs + side airbags on the USDM P5. Wish mine had the package bah
He doesn't have a P5.. has a sedan. He's canadian though so it has ABS :P

I do have ABS and the Side Air bags..so that makes sense.
I guess I dont need the Two extra speedo gears that Ken @ PG sold me then.

If I dont need them..then I dont see why not..Pay shipping I suppose?
Like $2-3 for USPS with a padded envelope I am sure.
Let me get the tranny apart this week and find out for sure..But If I dont need them..I'll hook you up with one.

Also..if you know anyone who needs or wants the Stock P5 seats with the Airbags..They are coming out as well...I bought a whole SPeed interior for the P5.
SO the Steering wheel, And all of the seats will be FS....Along with a ton of other stuff.
LMK if you know anyone in need of them.

I probably won't ever need one.. don't know if I'll ever go through with the LSD swap before I get a second car. But yeah for a few bucks (minus paypal fees lol) why not?
