Car and Driver Boss VI Mazdaspeed 5!?

Saw this in the magazine, confirmed on the site. Washtenaw Community College is taking the powertrain from a speed 3, stuffing it in a Mazda 5! Mazda USA donated a 5 for the project.

That woukld be killer. I vote for a sleeper look, keep it stock (ish) but then if it's stock, who would want to race you? It'd be sweet though. Anyone know the weight of a 5 compared to the MS3?

When I was reading that in this months issue, I was picturing it as having the MS3 18" wheels and painted the metropolitan gray mica color. Drop it a bit and put in some nice tint. Also, I think a big fat FMIC should be front and center.

yes. Way easier than making a hood for a TMIC (unless the engine is kinda far under the hood, can't say I've popped the hood on a 5) and it gets the point across about the car at least if an enthusiast sees it on the road. This is why in the winter when I have stock wheels/hood I like to leave my lower grille out so the FMIC is pretty obvious.

gotta keep it just a little bit ricey or no one will even notice your hard work.

I'm glad they're using the 2.3DISI and not just boosting the stock 2.3.. granted, you can make plenty more than stock MS3 power at the wheels on the stock 2.3 in the 5 but.. that's just not as fun as having direct injection and such.

But there are a lot uglier vehicles, and the 5 is pretty sleek.

The 5 is an acquired taste. I like it, my wife doesn't.

Its not like aztek, or element, or xb taste though. My wife loves it. It is her car and now she has zoom zoom too.
