So me and my buddy where talking the other day and he thought the Ford Focus SVT engine and the Protege where the same engine. I have no idea, but I havn't looked to far into it, but I thought I would run it by u guys. If they are the idea is to maybe do a tranny swap in his car to get a sixth gear since the SVT's are 6 speeds. Any ideas or bashing is welcome, just a thought.
Thanx.

not the same engine
SVT 2.0L ZETEC
Ford Motor Company used the Zetec name on a variety of Inline-4 cylinder automobile engines. It was coined to replace "Zeta" on a range of 1.6 L to 2.0 L multi-valve engines introduced in 1991. The company used the name widely in European advertising and later introduced it to the North American market with the Contour.
The Zetec name was so recognized that Ford decided to apply it to other high-tech four-cylinder engines. It is used across many engine types in Europe today even though the original Zeta design ended production in 2004. Ford also confusingly used the "Zetec" name for a trim level designation in certain markets.

Nice, I thought that there was a difference, but my friend insisted that I ask. That's cool though. Thanks.
I would like a sixth gear for faster highway driving though. ")

I saw that. Trans housing seems the same, except the starter is mounted on the front of their trans. Oh well.

So if one was to swap a Tranny, which once would be the best candidate. In terms of strength, beatibilty and such. I'm talking any FWD out there.

I my opinion The tranny that comes in the MSP, but upgrade :) Different clutch and fly wheel while your at it. Helps produce some power while beefing up the tranny.

Well, the automatic transmissions are the same between 3rd gen Proteges and about the same year range of Foci too.
But I bet there is probably other differences enough to make this not doable or someone would have already exploited this.
