Hello Guy,
I was wondering if anyone had looked into or changed the color of their cluster. I have a '02 Protege 5 and put in a Pioneer FH-P8000BT. Its a beautiful deck but the bright blue lights kinda clash with the dim orange. So i was just seeing if anyone knew how or has done it.
Thanks!!
Ill put pictures of the head unit on later tonight.

You can get one of those overlay kits, but I have not seen one for the pro5 that I remotely like. Usually they end up looking like rice, or you end up breaking a needle
Or you can swap the cluster face with one of the older proteges. I'm not sure what model to use... Justin XelderX did it in his p5, the trade-off is that you get a black cluster, instead of the off-white one that we have. That one illuminates green.
You could pull the colored bulb condoms off of the bulb. the light would get a little brighter, but would still be amber.
The problem is that the face plate has the amber color in it, so even if you put different colored lights back there, they would still have that amber hue to them.

unfortunately no one (like Nu Image) makes a faceplate replacement for our cars. The new image setup was a full replacement plate. I had a platinum one on my truck and loved it!

no problem. You may want to look for those overlays.. they may be you style. i don't know if there are newer, less cheesy styles available.

Stay away from the overlays. They ARE rice, and they DO break needles left and right. It's not worth it at all..
That was the one mod I regret doing most to my P5, cuz it cost me way too much to fix later on.

I personally looked for a headunit that matched the gauges. Although my current one does have 2 blue rings, it is adjustable.
I think you're SOL with matching the gauges to the radio

As promised here are the pictures of the HU. THe only thing bad about it is that it collects dust and finger prints easier then any i have ever had but i still love it. So sorry about it being dirty. :)
In the day with it on.

I put a set of reverse gauge overlays in my RX-7 3 years ago. Never had issues with the needles breaking or anything. It looks pretty decent too. Obviously not OEM but it's not too over the top, and the blue matches the Alpine headunit I got. I mostly got it cause I wanted something that matched the Alpine unit I bought from a friend for $100, rather than get another headunit to match the orange.

I don't think it clashes at all. Blue and orange are complementary colors, and work well together. Volkswagens have a similar color setup, although it's reversed. The gauges are blue with the radio and controls red.

I too thought about that headunit, but, decided if I do doubledin, it will be DVD with GPS touchscreen, and, since my budget didn't have that option, i got a cheap single din unit

I have a touchscreen DVD...you can see my pics in the vBGarage pics....but honestly they are over-rated....I love mine, but I rarely travel far enough that I use the DVD player and touchscreen is dirty as hell and smudged up after one or two trips.
I still love it because it has the motorized screen and is not a double DIN, but it is still over-rated. Plus I couldnt match up mine to the gauges at all...the lights glow white!

My HU matches my interior, and no it's not stock. But, they don't make it anymore. Last unit from Crutchfield FTW

Yeah, i almost got a JVC unit cause all teh buttons glowed red identical to stock gauge. But, it cost twice what I paid for my unit.
I still can't beleive I got the unit I have for $50
Clearance FTW!!!

... That's the cluster I want, the red SP20...
So if you find what you're looking for I might take it off you if you'd like..
Otherwise I'll be going to a wreckers..
