a friend of mine just decided to boost his stock mp3, he's runing some sort of custom kit with a gt28 and decided to get the MPI for EMS
anyway, he's got the option of gettin the stock ES ecu for free, will it make a difference if he switches it? reliability? CEL? since the mpi does adjust timing
Thanks

He will get a CEL with the ES ECU. Since the MPI can control timing I see no reason to swap the ECU.

Yeah definately go with either the MPI, MEgaSquirt, or Microtech. Spend the money now and be safe and faster, or put it off and drive in constant fear.

why would he get a cel? is there a way of gettin rid of it?

It has to do with the VTCS system in the manifold. As far as I know there is no way to get rid of it, short of swapping intake manifolds as well.

ummm, that sucks, but overall it is worth the swap? would the mp3 safety pro outdo the cel con?

He has no reason to remove the MP3 ECU since he can control timing.

I can give you my MPI timing map I made for 8psi using the J&S to tell me when I was detonating. I have been running the stock MP3 ECU for over 2 1/2 years with no problems, so don't waste your time with the swap.
