Here's my dyno chart. Mods are in sig. No, it's not that much power, but it's made the old fashioned way.

It costs so much and is alot of work to make honest HP... :)

yanno, honestly, I have a lot of respect for you. I know its not easy finding quality parts for older cars, and probably even tougher for older Proteges.

congrats.

nice car... but smelly owner.
:P

I can't wait to see this thing in the go in the summer.

Just for the curious. Blue was my baseline. Red is with exhaust, RX7 AFM w/pod filter and advanced ignition timing. Green is with exhintake cam and cam gears, tuned properly on the dyno of course.

Looks like you've got that motor figured out. Once I get to work on my 1st Gen I'll be talking to you a lot.

Which block is that? I suck at 1st gen knowledge.

that is a B series motor. is that the SOHC B8 or the DOHC BP? or am i totally wrong?

It's the BP-ZE 1839cc DOHC. This engine started in the Protege LX/GT model in 1990, then saw action in the Escort GT in 91, then the Miata in 94, then the Kia Sephia in 95. A BP-DE, slightly different tune, went into the 95 Protege.

The BP-ZE in the 1st Gens were rated at 125hp and 112lb-ft of torque. Because the exhaust cam has longer lift and duration than the intake cam, I was able to modify the exhaust cam from my spare engine, and install it on the intake side. With plenty of tuning, I netted 8whp.

125whp isn't much considering the popularity of forced induction. But 125whp isn't bad considering I don't even have a header installed yet, and it's good enough to get me in the mid 15's. This engine is capable of 145whp with only bolt-ons, which isn't too bad for a Mazda mill.

This should help..

145whp is right at my target for my 1st Gen build. I'll only be allowed bolt -ons and some slight porting in the head so I'm very excited to see the possibilities. I gained a bunch of HP on the FS from some porting on the head and intake. Does the BP head have trouble breathing at high RPM like the FS? I would assume not since it's based off of FI applications. How different is the tune on the BP that was put in the 2nd Gen Protege? I'll be allowed to swap parts around to an extent, but I want to start with the best base powerplant.
