I know you can buy the hardware to flash our PCM. The problem is getting the software to edit it. Any ideas? Any software engineers in the house?

No friggen idea. Locked away somewhere by a greedy asshole, is my only guess.

Well I found some companies who seem like they can supply software to do so. I'll be awaiting for their emails to know for sure.

But the units are like what, $1,400?

Pretty sure you have to pay subscription fees to use the software.
http://www.mazdatechinfo.com/

I once paid for a 24hr subscription even though I didn't have the hardware. I leeched most of the files from the site(ECU flash roms, shop manual html pages, diagrams) but it's very difficult to sort through, since all the file names are nondescriptive crap like a341, and I would have to replace all absolute hyperlinks with relative links. I still couldn't find the MSP ECU rom for the life of me.

Let me check when I get home and see if I still have some install files for the software, but most of the programs won't load at all without a direct connection to the WDS machine or whatever it's called.

i have the file name and part # you can download off techinfo. problem is editing the file. The loading device I can get so thats not a problem. I just want to see if I can edit them before I get it. At the least it would just benefit NA people so they have a boosted MSP calibration if they go turbo.

Yeah I couldn't ever tell what the capabilites of the software I had were, since it wouldn't load without the equipment.

getting into the ECU isn't really the problem.. it is sorting out how mazda does stuff and what things mean that is the issue.

flyin miata, bell engineering and a host of shops that have access to the PCM equipment have all said it is verifiably impossible and they spent a long time trying.

There were a couple of threads on msprotege.com where somebody was talking about that they were able to read it etc... my brother, Beavis, also had his ecu read by some big name Ford tuner guy and they said they could do it as well etc, and were able to read it, but then never came back with anything or any flash... so don't know where that all put us.

Well they came out with a CAN system a year or so ago. Supposedly it allows more access to the aftermarket. Our PCM is ford. There is a way to to program the summabitch. We gotta figure it out and end all our ems issues.

there's a big to-do on protegeclub now about another ford tuner who claims he can do this on any protege ecu. He has no proof or dyno's. He had no knowledge of anything protege specific.

I told him he'd not be an authorized until he came back with ACTUAL dyno numbers.

p.s. for giggles go check out "jet chips" website and look at their dynos. They are the funniest things I've ever seen. They were done in like MS paint.

there is a man in detroit, who posted on msprotege that is looking for test vehicles for some possible ecu tuning.
I am looking for Metro Detroit Mazdas for dyno testing etc... Send me an e-mail: sales@fordchip.com or call 248-982-2697.

The problem is everyont thinks they can do something with the ECU because it is a Ford Tweec-IV... but the problem is all the code is different... so everyone crashes and burns when they try to do something.

the Mazda 3 is CAN equipped and turning out to be just as stubborn or moreso than the Protege for tuning and so forth...
