I figure I'll do this for my 60,000 mile dohickey. (yea shoulda done this earlier, but i totally forgot...)
How much does a fuel filter cost and how hard is it to replace?
What else should add to the laundry list of things to change?
I've got spark plugs waiting, need to get a timing belt, thinking of changing the coolant and maybe using some seafoam to the intake manifold.
thanks.

fuel filter comes as part of the fuel pump assembly. you can clean the filter sock by pulling the pump module out - the sock is on a little metal arm attached to it all - and washing it down with something like mineral spirits.

you can order it seperately, but if you order the pump it comes with it as part of the module

i always recommend going with the walbro. the stock protege pump is the same as in the msm and those have been known to burn out. corky bell and FM always felt the stock pump was too weak for higher HP applications. the pump also burns out easier if you ever drop under a 1/4 tank of fuel.

the protege "filter" is a lifetime filter. it is designed to not have to be changed.

So what would be the benefit of replacing the whole filter? Is it unnecessary unless the pump itself is in need of replacement?

uhhh no, they have a 100k interval
the JDM owner's manual shows that
you guys need to read the FAQ about the damn fuel filter!
the JDM owner's manual shows that
100,000 kilometers or miles? That page of my JDM owners manual is ripped out.
100k miles would be a gamble with getting the pump out, the screws would either be totaly corroded away and you could just pull it off, or they would be stuck horribly and the pump housing would be rusted tight to the tank.
