WOW, it'd be interesting to look at that, and go look at the ones on your car and see what they're like...

i am personally going with OEM bearings and there is little to no argument that could convince me against it

When I pulled the stockers out of the first motor (the one that threw a rod) that had been running the ACT 30% pressure plate (same one I'm running now) and over 200 horse for about 26,000 miels and the bearings were all flawless... thrust and all...

If I ever get caught up on everythign I'll pull the bottom oil pans so I can look at the bearings.. I'll probably just pull the cap for the thrust main and look at those to call it good... I just hate only pulling one unless my builder can confirm the torque settings so that I don't end up with anything uneven...

I've really been debating on how much of a teardown I want to do or not.. time is killing me as well as budget... I have the oil issue to figure out, but that's really it... and at 6,000 miles on the motor I'm not that concerned with wear yet... so I'm thinking about keeping it intact until this fall regardless so that by this fall I'll have about 15,000 miles on it and that is a reasonable period to tear it down for. But at the same time going for 25 psi I don't want to risk the motor.

all the more reason to convince me to stay stock on hardware

Stock Hardware vs. TOGA is something I had to worry about as well.

TOGA were supposed to be "Better" but wear out the crank faster.

"Vat to do, vat to doo"?

better is a relative term. i have talked to many engine builders in the area and almost all of them recommend stock hardware unless you have a real good reason not to go with it or are pushing quad digit horsepower to justify it. plus i plan on keeping the car forever so premature crank wear is out of the question.

I don't know how it would wear out the crank faster... if the bearings are run properly the metal will NEVER touch... always rides on a film of oil.... the toga and the stock bearings have the same surface material.. just the togas have a stronger backing material to keep them from deforming under higher pressures... so that doesn't quite jive for wearing the crank... but yes, I wouldn't worry about Toga's... frankly the quality was quite underwhelming when I got them.. but oh well!

I decided to run stock, They made the motor, they probably know what they are doing (Unless you are dealing in rods :) )

It was discussed on the "Old Mazda Board" that the TOGA was a diferent material, It didn't make sense and they were dificult to get for the rebuild so I just went to the Parts Counter at my dealer. He was like, "What do you need those for"

I brought in the old block and got a good giggle out of the service department.

I still have my shattered block as a memoir :).

from what I can tell they are still a standard tri-metal construction both the stock and the Toga and they both have the same lead alloy face on them... the under layers are different, but you should never get near those.. I'll dig and see if I can find something more specific or not. But either way, I think the general agreement is use stock bearings and call it good..
