Blown turbo

Well good news and bad news my turbo is now blown..

As most of you know the car has always smoked and used oil.. well I hooked up my fcd and turned the boost to 13psi and now after about 20 mins of driving I have no boost.. pull the ic pipe and the comp housing is pooled up with oil..

now what I am hoping is that the turbo has always been blown on the rear bearing causing it to blow oil out the exhaust and not the front while on stock 6psi.. Now at 13psi maybe it caused the front bearing to go and thus oil in the front housing and no boost.

So next is to get another S4 turbo and put it on and see if I got smoke and using oil..

Hopefully I wont have to pull the engine now.

I think this is the first time ever that a blown turbo was good news. So the engine may be fine after all?

Hopefully it's just the turbo!! Save ya some money and time in replacing. Any news on the front end damage though??

I found a turbo from a guy I have dealt with before..

stock S4 turbo in GREAT shape.
28mm ported internal gate
all castings have been removed
comes with a TRUE custom made 3" wrapped downpipe.

150.00 shipped

I just need the 150.00 and I can get this turbo and see if my problems are cured!


and yeah I got hit in a parking lot (while I was away from my car) the new passenger fender is crushed, front bumper is moved over a but but the rest seems ok!

i am selling this kid my old n/a motor for 300.00 he is coming either today or tomorrow with a 150.00 deposit and I will use that to buy the turbo and dp.

I just hope I get it here before the weekend..

I need to pull my intercooler off though and wash it out since I know oil got into it..

Blue is the best color out there! Should paint the rexy blue! lol

it would be hard to paint the rex blue when it is red.. it would be a tough color to completely cover.

But the turbo was the only thing to take a dump was the turbo?

well I wont know the status on the engine until I put the new turbo in... At this time the turbo is junk.. so my hope is that it was failing the entire time..

only time will tell once I get it on!

So, the same thing happened to me.

Next time, B4 you kill it totally... Get a cartridge...

1500 for new turbo
600 for new cartridge.

The rotating assembly and bearing housing is cheap, and if you replace it before it spins out in the shells... No damage done..

the down pipe was either cut and split OR he is tossing something else in the other box

Got 3 boxes...

1 box = turbo
1 wrapped up pipe
next box = clamps, tubes, hoses etc


I am happy later when I get home it will all be installed and we get to go for a drive.

turbo and downpipe are on.. with the 3" downpipe and no exhaust it is ALMOST impossible to drive the car... however I will manage..

As for the smoke.. I think it is gone... it gets a little here and there but that could be residue in the intercooler and piping and intake that could take some time to clear out..

needless to say I will now by tomorrow.. the engine is COMPLETELY full on both oil and coolant.. tonight I will be going on and pushing it and seeing how it runs and tomorrow I will check the oil.. if it is still full then the problem is fixed..

However the new turbo did have a little shaft play in it (side to side not in and out)

Oh well if this lasts me a while and proves that my engine is good I will save for an upgraded turbo

The turbo is junk... I began smoking again after about 10 miles...

I did race it last night beat a sr20det swapped 240sx (twice) but I am going to pull the turbo today and have it inspected tomorrow to see if they feel it needs to be rebuilt..

I am still using oil and still smoking.. and I think it is turbo related.

Well I did not pull the turbo off yesterday.. so I will crack at it prolly tonight..

It just sux... I need to get this fixed and figured out so I can make my road trip next month.
