FYI- Wireless detectors don't have the same range as their plugged in counterparts. And with more and departments going toward laser, detectors have about run their course of usefulness.

Yeah, but all a Laser detector is good for is allowing you more time to prep your story before the cop actually pulls you over.

With laser there isn't any detection time, it's point and click. By the time the radar goes off, you're fucked.
I have the Escort Passport 8500 X50 and it works fantastic!! With radar on the highway and around time driving it's awesome, but nothing's gonna save you with laser. That, and most cops that sit on the side of the highway don't just have their radar on at all times, instead they pick out who they can visually see speeding and shoot at them, so like laser by the time the radar goes off you're already getting pulled over..

I also have an Escort and it's save my ass more times than I can remember. If I were to upgrade, it would be to a Valentine 1.

+1 the Valentine is nice cuz it shows you with an arrow which way the signal is coming from. Hardly worth the extra money though.. Arrows don't mean much. You hear beep, you slow down .. end of story.

+1...You forgot to add "say oh shit" between hearing the beep then slow down
Valentine are effing expensive

Don't forget Beltronics! they make really nice detectors, and strangely enough mine says it was made in Mississauga Ontario where it's illegal to have radar/laser detectors haha.
For $199 you can get a good detector, hell even about 3 years ago the Whistler Pro 73 was that price and was unbeatable for the price.

what about active laser jamming devices... I have heard of people having a lot of luck with them, any thoughts?

They're very good, very effective, and legal most places.
I've installed the Beltronics LaserPro 905 (this was 4 years ago) and it was most excellent :)
not on my car so I can't give tons of personal experience.

just slow down it's cheaper (save money on gas, on laser detector, etc).
I honestly don't know why I even run my Beltronics Vector 985 anymore :P

The only real reason I still my 8500 X50- it's also my voltage gauge.
