Due to some changes in Microsofts's e-mail policies, any subscriptions or emails to your Microsoft owned mail account seem to be adversely effected by recent policy changes.

I'm getting hundreds of emails that have been denied by Hotmail/MSN/etc... these include subscription notification, password hints, etc.

Here's what I'm getting on my end:

This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.

A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its
recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:

ANYTMFUSER@hotmail.com
SMTP error from remote mail server after MAIL FROM:<gr8mp3@zephyr.ultimatehost.cc> SIZE=2826:
host mx4.hotmail.com [65.54.244.104]: 550 DY-002 Mail rejected by Windows Live Hotmail for policy reasons. The likely cause is a compromised or virus infected server/personal computer. If you are not an email/network admin please contact your E-mail/Internet Service Provider for help. Email/network admins, please visit http://postmaster.live.com for email delivery information and support

If you have a Hotmail account, note that we're working on the problem, but it looks to be quite some time before I can figure out a fix.

I'm on it. Microsoft are being turds about the whole situation. BTW I looke on Microsoft's own lookup site, for this IP/Server, and the reult was the minimum " < 0.1 % Problems ".

There efforts to fight spam are at what expense??

Yeah haha my mom still uses hotmail and she gets SO much spam. My g-mail account? Zero spam hits the inbox, never any false positives (I check).

Microsoft is way way behind and as usual, they try to brute force their way to a modern e-mail system and oh look, it's riddled with bugs.

Gmail has been AMAZING with their spam system, but I do still get some spam in the inbox. Maybe 1/day average TOPS.

Well to be fair I do take steps to make sure my e-mail address isn't visible out there. 6 pages of google results for your e-mail addy vs 1 result for mine.

OK So the results are positive. We should have no problems with any email providers now:

Explanation of the possible results (adapted from
draft-kucherawy-sender-auth-header-04.txt):
================================================== ========

"pass"
the message passed the authentication test.

"fail"
the message failed the authentication test.

"softfail"
the message failed the authentication test, and the authentication
method has either an explicit or implicit policy which doesn't require
successful authentication of all messages from that domain.

"neutral"
the authentication method completed without errors, but was unable
to reach either a positive or a negative result about the message.

"temperror"
a temporary (recoverable) error occurred attempting to authenticate
the sender; either the process couldn't be completed locally, or
there was a temporary failure retrieving data required for the
authentication. A later retry may produce a more final result.

"permerror"
a permanent (unrecoverable) error occurred attempting to
authenticate the sender; either the process couldn't be completed
locally, or there was a permanent failure retrieving data required
for the authentication.

Good luck with hotmail/msn/live.com; they are the worst when it comes to this shit. I admin our inbound and outbound mail servers at work and I have to do wacky mail routing shit to get our mail out to them and we are a government agency. I sent mail to their support address and got no response. I did some searching around their postmaster site and the suggest that you get some sender certification BS through some company which would have been like 50k/year if I remember correctly. We actually thought about doing it until the point when I found that we could get mail to them through one of our IPs.

Not our case. When TMF was moved over, the TXT record got copied from the old server. Unfortunately, msn blacklisted the website because of the incorrect record. This has been fixed and email checks pass with flying colors. But we have to submit to MSN that this has been corrected, or else they will take their time to spider for results again...

Today:

Hello Patrick,

Thank you for contacting Windows Live Hotmail Domain Support, my name is Jaime.

Your IP 69.90.183.30 was blocked by Windows Live Hotmail because the traffic/e-mail originating from your IP matched characteristics of recent spam attacks from compromised, or 'zombie' infected, machines.

After reviewing the information you provided, we have taken steps to remove the block. This change should take effect within the next 24-48 hours.

In order to prevent this and future exploits of this nature, please verify that your MTA's are under your full control, the MTA has not been compromised, and that you are not unwittingly sending any spam.

We also suggest that you scan your computer to verify that there is no malicious software installed. You can obtain a free Windows Server or client PC scan by visiting: http://safety.live.com (or) http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/downloads/default.mspx

More information about this exploit can be found here: http://antivirus.about.com/od/whatisavirus/a/zombiepc.htm

Additional information on common deliverability issues and best practices can be found on the Windows Live/Hotmail Postmaster Site found at: http://postmaster.live.com/. lol @ suggesting to scan for viruses *sigh* don't assume everyone is running your crappy OS and crappier web server!

if this doesn't get resolved I have (had) a roommate who is en route to seattle to start his job at Microsoft.. I can see if he can direct us to someone who can really fix it.

Protege v2.5

Did you ever check on Leo323, also NApro5 is another I tried getting over who had problems. Sent both PMs on the forums I recruited them from to let them know things should work now.

if they used hotmail addresses (I know for a fact NApro5 did I remember clicking the "send activation e-mail" on that user) they should be getting e-mails shortly.

I contacted a toprotege guy I saw in the list for further confirmation that things are working.

just so I can compare numbers, right now there's 103 users awaiting e-mail confirmation. Hopefully that number comes down a LOT.

well I contacted him for confirmation.. he hasn't actually confirmed yet. As of right now I'm not certain, but unless you got 60-80 bounced e-mails in the past half hour I'd say yeah it worked

none since those two, dated 804 and 939pm, but the 939pm failure was a partial success:

SMTP error from remote mail server after RCPT TO:<XXXXX@hotmail.com>:
host mx4.hotmail.com [65.54.244.104]: 550 Requested action not taken:

Yeah, I got like 120 of them. Didn't know email notification was the standard. Have since changed that.
