ah ok, I wasn't sure what this thread was about (yay lynx)
seriously I need to post the google analytics stats about os/browser usage on this site.
let's just say firefox WAY outnumbers IE, linux outnumbers mac (last I checked) and lynx is on the browser list lol

sweet!
although im contributing to the windows tab right now *bows head in shame*
i've been doing some stuff for the last few days that needs windows (plus ati severely butchered their latest linux driver that i loaded without thinking, and have been too lazy to fix)

I tried installing that before and it errored me out of the installation.

opera is an extremely solid browser, and has many unique features that are only imitated with 3rd party plugins in any of its competitors
closed source is just against my religion though, so i use firefox :)

Was it the wonderful driver that put the AMD overlay saying 'for testing only' even though it wasn't a beta release?
yeah performance with that driver was so bad that I went back to using the open source radeon driver. Now I can run compiz fusion like a champ too, can't do anything like that with ATI's crap drivers. If I cared enough to upgrade this computer I wouldn't have an ATI card :P
distr0 --what distro do you use?
on my thinkpad I use xubuntu (7.10) and on my desktop I'm testing ubuntu hardy heron (8.04)

no its an official release driver. they managed to break 1680x1050 resolution (argh) i actually fixed it somewhat, but yeah i think im going back to the open driver for now (although ati's drivers are MUCH better recently, and they finally support fglrx... its still nowhere near good enough)
i wouldnt but ati again either right now...
and i run fedora 8

meh, fedora is a good balance of freedom/usability/community
i feel way too restricted in ubuntu... it feels like windows
i used to run slackware, but updates are always waaaay behind the times and its SOO much more work to get a full system up and running

feel too restricted? I guess coming from debian it wasn't a big change for me. The reason I run ubuntu over debian is that even Feisty Fawn (two major releases behind what I'm using right now) is still bleeding edge compared to debian :P
Is it just gnome you don't like? no wait default in fedora is gnome.
I just can't bring myself to deal with RPM packages on a daily basis :P

but you dont have to deal with rpms, just add a good repo or 2 and you've got everything you'll ever need
