Closest to TN I've ever gotten is when I drove to Roanoke Va to get my tint done. But I've flown over it a bunch of times!

Yeah Cashville is like that. go 20 miles south of Nashville and you hit NOTHING. really.. I drive that way to get to some of the meets and its barren.

Speaking of south of Nashville,
I'm mildly interested in this '93:
http://nashville.craigslist.org/car/505872037.html
because it says excellent condition inside and out. no pics; it could be crap, it could also be a scam. then again maybe it's someone on here. I've asked for pics and details.
where I'm going with this - there's a 1st gen 5-speed available locally with a crappy body/interior but motor and tranny seem good. it's too cold for bike rides, and I wouldn't mind a winter project.
thoughts?

Tennessee is my second home. Im up there every few months or so hiking in GSMNP and Cherokee Natl Forest. About a 4 hour drive from me. Ive gotten pretty used to it.
In fact, I bought my P5 from a company in Knoxville.

Get a LX first gen.
Even if your plannin to mod the shit out of it.
Also I payed 750 for a damn clean 94.
So you can find a good deal if you look for one.

what's an LX do for me? better interior?
I don't want power anything. A/C would be ok but not that important. I suppose cruise would be okay but not important.

LX is DOHC. DX is single.

01-03-2008, 05:25 PM
ah okay, that makes sense. is it a matter of hp and mod-ability, or is the SOHC a crappy engine?
SteveO
01-03-2008, 05:30 PM
One of my first cars was a 93 DX. I drove the living hell out of it. 189K miles, 90K of those from me, and it never had a hiccup. Until I wrecked it, of course.

actually.. right now its dead, so the bike wins!

so that means more power than 8 of the 10 vehicles in my garage!
the local guy wants $500 for it (93 DX MT). I figure it needs at least $500 in parts, could be up to $1k. and that leaves peeling clearcoat, a few rust spots, rough interior, with 170k. guess I'll keep looking.
seems like MT LXs are rare.

I drove through TN twice on my way from Dallas to PA and back. That whole state looks creepy as hell to me. Everything I saw in that state reminds me of the worst parts of Dallas. Prob just the highway I drove through on though.
And OMG I never realized how far away Memphis and Nashville were from each other.

hm... I just couldn't do the AT - I have way too fun shifting gears.
man am I ever tempted on this one. but for some reason I think I can find a better body to start with. I'm in no hurry so I can keep looking for the perfect car/price.
right now I'm using craigslist, autotrader, ebay, and various mazda forums for the search. as well as networking.

East TN has some of the most beautiful places in the US. Dont stereotype a whole state based on 1 highway.

lots of schools don't let freshmen have cars on campus, for a pretty long list of reasons.

seriously? Like... my highschool did that, but I've never heard of a college doing that.
here's a sample of reasons why:
- parking space: This is especially true for a large school in a densely-populated area. The freshman class is always the largest, the housing the densest (dorms). Parking for all those students takes up a lot of space.
- campus atmosphere: Colleges spend a lot of money trying to keep students on campus. Having an active campus community is really important for keeping retention rates high (especially important for freshmen), and one easy way to keep students on campus is to not allow all students to have cars on campus.
I barely drove my car at all when I lived on campus. There's just not much you need to leave for. Just imagine how long cars just sit on lots considering that most people aren't driving enthusiasts. Theft and vandalism becomes an issue when cars just sit around for long periods.

I hate downtown Ktown because there is NEVER room to park.. err. So yeah I see why you wouldn't have your car. After you see how many cars are everything you wouldn't WANT to TRY to park your car there.

I said SOME meets, btw...:killit:
And also I'm not a manager anymore, as of August 2007.
I did look on 24/7 to see if there was anything coming up and the TN/SE section has dust on it...
I figured it was because Sam had a baby and Brandon was usually the leader, so 2+2 equals.... no meets?
