Hi to everyone out there!
Unfortunately broke my left tail light while parking (Mazda 323 BJ 2002 HB). The tail lights are the ones before the facelift but I think the protege5 tail lights with the two round white lights will fit as well. Looking for the left original one, or a pair of protege5 for a decent price. These are the mazda's part numbers for pre/after facelift in case it helps. Also I attach two pictures of what I eventually need. Thank you, any thoughts welcome.

prefacelift left , right:
BJ3D-51-160C, BJ3E-51-150C

after facelift left, right:
BL5M-51-160, BL5P-51-160

The part numbers are for the right light. You need the left, right?

I can get a pair of Protege5 ones for around 70 Euros (brand new from Mazda), dunno how much it would cost to ship though. They wouldn't have the rear fog light indicator lamp though, as the U.S. market lights didn't come with it. I'm not sure if your car did or didn't have them.

I'll have a set of these for sale by next week. Not sure if it's your style though, but lemme know if you want them.

Thank you very much for your comments. Yes, I need the left one and prefer to get the original ones, so I'm intersted in Kansei's offer indeed. I guess the ones from Protege5 will fit mechanically to my car (is the chassis of the BJ and protege5 the same?). Do you know how many openings for bulbs there are in the protege's lights, because if they're 3 - then the european version uses the left reverse light for the fog light indicator (here in Europe it is in red plastic) and the right one for a reverse light indicator. Anyway I don't quite often use this fog light indicator, so as I understand I may choose to put into the left opening either the reverse bulb or the one for fog, correct me if I'm wrong. I also checked with usps.com for my destination in Europe - the shipping would be around 50 USD, so that's OK for me. Kansei, can we talk about the details about buying and shipping (been driving with a broken light for a month, can't go on like this anymore). Thanks.

lol @ 247.com

but yeah that would be a lot easier than me sourcing the new ones for like $50 each, it would take them about a week to get here.

I think he may need the short tail harness piece though, since he currently has a fog light indicator.

Thank you once again for your readiness to help! Think I'll look like a Protege5 with the tail lights, that would be great! I'll contact now ForceFed, Kansei - thanks for your PM, I appreciate your help.

there's basically a short pigtail harness that goes into the car from the lights. Since he has the pre-facelift lights, some stuff is different (i.e. he has a fog light indicator lamp) and I'm not 100% sure if the plug sockets and stuff are the same.

Well...do you know if the JDM ones I will be ordering come with a new harness...The ones from CS?

corksport does include harnesses for the JDM one. I'm 90% sure of that, confirm it on their site I seem to remember it saying it.

Well, I can a make a photo of the back side of the tail light together with the connector, if that helps.

If corksport sends ForceFed the harnesses with his new JDM tails, it won't really be needed.

I guess it would be kinda interesting to see. On the back of the U.S. lights, it lists the bulb type/size next to each socket, and it lists it for U.S., Japan, and Europe --even though the JDM, EDM, and USDM lights are all different. This leads me to believe that the back piece of the light is shared between all the countries. I have a right side spare light so I could snap a photo of that so that we could compare them.

It's getting late here, but in the morning I'm gonna take picture of the tail light. As far as I understand these abbreviations JDM, EDM, USDM stand for Japan, Europe and US. So we have 3 "different" models for these markets - Familia, 323, Protege respectively. I also figured out that the tail light for mazda familia has two separate openings - one for the brake, one for the light. The one that I have on my car uses one common bulb for the brake and the light and has a fog light, so that leads me to believe that it is EDM type. Evidently there're some slight deviations between the models (one has fog light, the other doesn't...one uses one bulb intead of two and so on)This is how I explain all that stuff to me.

Yeah.. by USDM I mean U.S. but in this specific situation Canada is 100% the same as well.

Since your light uses a common bulb for brake and normal tail light, that makes it more like the Protege5 light, so perhaps a wiring harness swap wouldn't be needed. Do you know if you legally must have the rear fog light indicator lamp?

Also, since I know a ton of the U.S./Canada members would love to know, how do you control that rear fog light? You said you rarely use it, can it be controlled by itself or is it just on whenever the fog light is on?

I guess a wiring harness swap wouldn't be needed, tomorrow I'll post the pictures, so we'll compare the lights. Yes, indeed, I rarely use that fog light indicator, I don't if it is a legal requirement here, maybe some European requirement, but when driving in the winter I've almost never have seen anyone using it. Where I live there are approx. 10 foggy days (really terrible fog) in the winter and I don't use it. There is a switch on the dashboard just below the one for the front fog light, this is how you control it,you can switch it on and off separately independent from the front fog lights. Also there's a lamp on the cluster indicating it's on.I'll make a photo of the dashboard.

Thanks a ton for the info! This brings hope to those of us who have wanted to wire up a rear fog light indicator lamp on our U.S. cars.

Here are the pictures I promised to take. Downsized a bit to upload it here and lost some quality but they'll do.
