I am looking for a used 2.0L turbo protege engine or at least a used 2.0L

Since my last post i took the car to my mechanic who informed me i need to but an engine. whoever owned the car before apparently wasn't servicing it. So when he removed the engine cover to change the timing belt, he discover plenty sludge (or more like rubber it was that thick and hard) and realised it must have been in the sumpas well causing some blockage because the oil getting to the head was minimal and this caused the cam to wear the head and what i thought was pinging was actually the cams rattling.
he advised me to get an engine since i might have to overhaul the block as well as but a head, and buying an engine is a cheaper option.
Any suggestions as to where i can source one to be shipped to Barbados?

the 2.0 will not work properly on your car and swapping it over is a lot of trouble

you can find plenty of the 1.8s in the US

Thanks a lot for the info. I was of the opinion that the engines were almost identical except for the stroke, and that it could be a straight swap. i had been gathering info online from various parts suppliers in the U.S. and i saw that the parts were interchangeable, hence my conclusion.

i really wanted to up my power but it looks like i am going to have to rethink my plan.

any other suggestions?

[Kirk, this is AK from Kellspeed. The engines are physically identical and both will bolt to the same transmission. You must use your coil pack, as the one for the 2000cc engine has different connections. All other wiring is the same. You know how to reach me by phone.

Anyone knows where I can get a 2.0L for a 2003 protege in Trinidad... Currently driving on a 1.6L. Will it change over smoothly?

You have some changes to do on the dash wiring harness if going from a 1.6 to a 2.0L
