can someone help me? My engine started pinging for no apparent reason. I was told that maybe it could be the gas so i used a fuel additive that is supposed to boost tthe octane but that didn't help help. I know that incorrect engine timing usually can cause pinging, but since nothing was done to the timing, what can be the possible causes. Any suggestions?

Hi I have a Mazda 323F ( ZM engine) It too pinks. I posted the same question up but no-one could really provide any advice. I took mine to the dealer to replaced the coil packs. Pinking went away for a few months and then came back. The timing and all that is automatically adjusted. There is very little you can do.

I am looking for a used 2.0L turbo protege engine or at least a used 2.0L
Since my last post i took the car to my mechanic who informed me i need to but an engine. whoever owned the car before apparently wasn't servicing it. So when he removed the engine cover to change the timing belt, he discover plenty sludge (or more like rubber it was that thick and hard) and realised it must have been in the sumpas well causing some blockage because the oil getting to the head was minimal and this caused the cam to wear the head and what i thought was pinging was actually the cams rattling.
he advised me to get an engine since i might have to overhaul the block as well as but a head, and buying an engine is a cheaper option.
Any suggestions as to where i can source one to be shipped to Barbados?
