To start, I have a Protege ES '99
My plans for the near future:
-USDM Eibach ProKit Part #: Protege 99-03 : 5540.140 (Front: 1.4' / Rear: 1.8')
-Aftermarket rims and tires
I am hoping to fit 17" rims, but what tire dimensions am I looking at for no rub?
Thank you!

Do I need to keep the width at 7" or would 7.5" work?

If not, how about 17" x 7.5" with +48?

17" x 7.5" with +48 does fit

7.5" will be fine, as long as your tyre is 215.
225 tyre might hit the wheelarch.
I have 8" rim, with et47 (et50 rim with 3mm spacer) and a 215 tyre.
I had to grind my arches at the rear.
If the 215 tyre was fitted to a 7.5" rim I think it would have ben ok. ;)
