Ok, coming home I had my Mazda in second gear (Tiptronic), touched the accelerator and the engine kinda hesitated a couple times...was coasting downhill then it sputtered and cut out...luckily i was very close to home and on an incline so i coasted straight home. Tried started and she started straight away, no hesitation...whats happening there? I have to go back out but am obviously concerned I'll be stranded somewhere...thoughts on the matter peoples??

maybe no good quality fuel... with some kind of dirt or little water... try filling with gas in another gas station...

It could proabably be called a gasket as it does seal the oil from the camshsft to timing cover.

The engine is the S-VT type ( ZL-VE) shouldn't they be the same ? . How much cost and how soon can you do this ??

with thanks
trini.

Right, now that we're finished buying seals etc., can we now get back to my original problem...lol...
Anyway, yeah I'm in Barbados and the fuel isn't the problem...she sputtered and cut out on me last night again, sounded as if it backfired as well... seems like it tends to happen when I'm driving more aggressively that normal...my mechanic had changed the MAF sensor thinking that was the problem (so did I) but it occured again.....what now? Any other thoughts?

Sounds like a sensor or partial line blockage. Could be throttle position sensor, or maybe an O2 sensor. If you're so inclined you could check the strainer on the fuel pump to see if it's clogged or has a lot of impurities. My 97 Ford Escort had those same symptoms one time and it ended up being that the fuel pump was getting clogged because the strainer had gotten loose.

Thanks...changed the maf sensor already so i'll have the mechanic check the rest...will post results shortly.

Oh, and also this only happens once every so often...80% of the time the car works fine...?

Those are the hardest to diagnose sometimes. Do you do regular tunes ups, ie. spark plugs, oil, etc. Well, good luck and let us know what the tech finds out. Sorry I couldn't help more.
