Howdy
My name is Harley, i live in australia. I have a 1999 Ford laser KN. I Have a 1.8 litre BJ FWD engine. i was reffered to this site as im researching information on adding a turbo to my car. whether i need an engine swap or what i need i dont no yet. any help would be much appreciated. cheers

welcome dude, another australian laser owner... I was a laser owner before I changed my KJ for my BJ Protegé... there are some turbo kits for your FP engine, but maybe doing a swap for a FS-DE engine and then install the turbo should be better....

The FP-DE (1.8L) can take a turbo but it has weak internals. I think you can push up to 180hp before you start getting in trouble. The FS-DE (2.0L) is basically the same as the 1.8L except for different bore and stroke (i think). The ZM-DE (1.6L) has stronger internals. You can push about 200whp with good fuel management. There's a local guy that's running an FS-DET (2.0L turbo) pushing over 250whp with stock internals. He broken 7 transmissions already but the engine is still holding. OH by the way...
