View Full Version : What do you think of this??

A friend on another Mazda board recommended this board to me (thanks tunersteve!). I was wonder what the good people on this board thought of this idea?

I like it. It's very low-key and subtle. Does it still leave the vent semi-functional? The local Mazda 3 guys around here have something similar but I think their gauges/mounting solution totally blocks off the vent opening.

A local guy has his set up like that too. Unless it gets really hot or cold where you live, it looks like a good idea to me. Definitely a clean place for the install.
I'd probably make sure I blocked the vent 1st. ;)

Clean, subtle, I like it. Too bad I don't have a need for one.

Yes, the vent stays functional, and actually flows quite well. There have been no reports of fogging or whistling/howling either.
I make them for the Mustang guys, and I'm working on expanding out to the Mazda market. ;)
It literally just snaps in....takes all of 30 seconds to install. ;)
that's pretty damn sweet, as long as the vent still works ok...

wow looking at the pics, it looks like the vent would work just fine. How is the angle of that from the driver's seat?

I have the same gauge in the first picture mounted like the Aeroforce scan gauge pictured above.
I have my Aeroforce gauge mounted between the airbag light and ciggy lighter. I drilled a hole in that piece of plastic.
IMO, Boost needs to be easily glanced at with your eyes on the road.

Saw this before in 24-7, liked the idea a lot.
I'd recommend some sort of swivel if there was one available, or a way to at least build the gauge in a slant towards the driver. The only more slick solution I've seen is to build a gauge pod set on the center dash area. There are a few clean looking ones out there.

Yeah, the dash mounted units are cool, but my whole niche concentrates on the vents. The vents provide a solution whereby 90% of the vehicles that are good candidates for this pod require no drilling or cutting into the dash or face of the i/p. That's the biggest "selling feature" of the VentPod....you can always go back to stock and no one would ever be the wiser. Big for leases. ;) Plus, it usually takes less than a minute to install the actual pod.
I'm looking into angling them at approx. a 10* angle toward the driver.
^^ I'd definitely like to see that.

ME Me! I want one :) I don't have a gauge just yet but that is 100% exactly what i want. If you make them for maz peps then i will for sure buy one once i get my gauge. Will this work with the Defi bf gauges? And im with Fourthmeal, if there is a way to tilt it ever so slightly toward the driver that would be best.

The will house any 52 mm gauge. I'll see how the angle affects the tooling. It'll take a week or so to get that feedback from my source.
So, if this were a "gauging interest" type of thread, how many of you would purchase one?

Okay, you'll have to use your imagination a bit here. I've tipped the gauge toward the driver at a 10* angle. I don't have in car pics, just CAD...
Better?

I did see that on another forum too. There is work to get it to fit the 3, but still, looks great imo.

Jim thanks for looking into the angled pod. And if this were a GI thread im defiantly in! I need to pick up a gauge!

You're welcome!! If all goes to plan (and we're on track bigtime), you'll be able to order one for your vehicle in about two months. It takes a little while to build the tool. :(

Sounds good! That will give me time to save up for the gauge. Thanks again!
I'm counting 3 or 4 as of right now.

I love the way that looks!! I wish the P5 had similar vents..

you have my vote on another forum, but I didn't know you were doing the angled. I like that idea the best.

We still have some homework to do there. Our first angled pod howled when the air moved over it. Kinda like blowing across an open beer bottle. That may kill that idea.
But for now, here are some pics of the production representative center vent pod for the 6 (and CX7)...

Okay people, we're going to kick off the tool for the 3 either tomorrow or Monday! Yayyy!!
We are going to hold off on the 6 for now. The center vent style pod will be our prime direction for that model, but I can't launch more than one product at a time right now.
With all the interest in the 3, it shouldn't be long before we can start on the MS6 Center VentPod.
WHO NEEDS 2??!!!!

Hey you may want to post this over at carolinamazdas.com too. You probably won't be able to sell over there, but you could direct them to your group buy. We've got a bunch of 3 guys/gals

Got my boost gauge on order, so I hope they get out soon. Is the sale through RPM going to be first come first served or are the ppl on the list going to get some preferential treatment?

When they're available for sale, TheRPMStore will have enough quantity on hand to handle everyone on the list and then some. ;)
We're making these in batches of hundreds.

Well, here they are.....the first "sample parts" off my new tool!!! Once their fit in the car has been verified, we'll run the first production batch of 500 units. I painted two just show you what the final product will look like. :)
I'll be directing everyone to The RPMStore for sales. ;) Giddy-UP!
