It's a very small price to pay for the pleasure of driving a Mazda, that's for sure.
I got gas a week or two ago @ $4.19 (for 91, 93 was 10 cents more than 91 at the station in question).
My mom was paying $4.17 for 87 as of last week (in Connecticut).

There are suppressed technologies out there that need to be rediscovered, developed, and sold cheaply (at the risk of being "offed" by big oil companies.) For now I'm working on these suppressed ideas on my own, just to improve my own situation with gas.

... or don't live so far from work. If I drove to school and back plus like grocery store and stuff on the way there/back, I'd only have to fill up every 3-4 weeks. It's a pretty inexpensive commute. In another year at the most, if gas/diesel continue to rise like this, I'm going to get a VW TDI and convert that to run on veggie oil. I would much rather take the time to filter this crap and build a system to process the oil than to fill up at $4 or $5, even $6 bucks a gal, F that. I'm taking it slow as shit in my P5 and I'm getting roughly 28-30mpg mixed. I'd rather drive like i stole it and get 45 :protest: My commute is 80 miles a day, and with weekend driving I'm filling up at least once a week.

In the bike world, my Buell got excellent mileage when it wasn't revved up (which is tough to rev, since it is a silly Harley motor.) All in all, 48-50MPG on required Premium was its typical output. My Honda VFR 800 was far less efficient, but it would run better on the cheap stuff, getting ~38MPG.
I think my next vehicle for my personal use will be an SV650 or 1000, from 2002-2005 or so depending on what's out there. Great bikes IMO. Bikes like Duc's are great, but maintenance can be an absolute bitch. They run great when they are running, but if you need a part you have to really search hard to find it at below-rape pricing.
If you want distinguished and good handling, you couldn't do much better then a Buell IMO, especially the really new one, the 1150R model. That thing uses a Rotax engine, which is one of the most significant developments in the motorcycle world for U.S. built bikes.

I kinda laugh at all you guys wanting a buy something additional that gets good gas mileage. Have you actually run the numbers? Sure you might get something with good gas mileage, but it will take a long time to break even with the gas savings vs the initial cost of the "new" vehicle.
And for those that blame Bush for all of this.... don't we have a Democratically controlled Congress right now? I've never understood the fascination with motorcycles. I've seen drivers do way too many stupid things for me to want to abondon my "safety cage" and go play in traffic. I like to mountain bike, but trees and rocks don't suddenly change lanes in front of me on the trail. If I hit one, it's my own fault. I saw a guy today while out at lunch riding- shorts, t-shirt, flip flops and a helmet strapped the second seat while his hair blew in the breeze. I hope his organ donor card is filled out.

Actually I felt safer on my bike then in a car. The maneuverability is second to none, and the overall control with a bike is much more confidence inspiring. Always ride wearing gear, and always wear a full-face helmet. I've hit the pavement once in my life, and my gear kept me out of the ER or even the doc's office. Sure, you might be fuct if you take a big hit, but you can more easily avoid it altogether if you use your brain instead of panicking. All too often I hear stories about, "yep...had to lay her down!"...and inside I just laugh, because about 99.9% of the time, you could have had an escape route mapped in your mind instead of object-targeting the stupid obstacle in the first place. The trick is to not fixate and brace, but to IMMEDIATELY do SOMETHING, while maintaining total control of the bike. I'm not an expert rider, but I do feel confident while riding that I'm not going to bite it, and that confidence in my abilities keeps me upright.

I spent about 6 hours last night researching various water/plasma setups, from the GEET to the MIT "Plasmatron". LMAO, people like the MIT guys solved the entire problem (and so have many "crazy" inventors), yet here we are still playing 4-5 bucks per gallon of hydrocarbons.
The MIT white papers show that after an initial startup on basic hydrocarbons, the system looped its exhaust (which was nearly pure water) back in to the intake, all this wrapped around a regular combustion engine. What that means is that once sufficiently warmed up, the system ran continuously on NO fuel except a couple drops of water.
Damn.
How much is gas again?
Now you can see why I've been trying to make something like this work. It DOES work, but a lot of inventors and indeed whole companies have been attacked by "big oil" and other special interest groups when they try to remove oil from people's requirements in life.
BTW if you didn't know, we are at peak oil production or close to it. There is TONS of supply. Supply and Demand laws are skewed because someone's hording the money, not paying attention to the laws. I know EXACTLY who these people are, and I'm sure some of you do to. Now then, if they are the hoarders, why not just change the commodity you need (tiny amounts of water) and get this expensive monkey off your back?

Actually my friend, it would wipe out the middle and lower classes completely, forcing them into a poor-class situation. Why? Because if gas goes up, EVERYTHING goes up. Plastics, rubbers, transportation, packaging, food, clothing, etc....everything. It is quite possibly the worst thing that could happen to our economy. Gas means everything to everyone, because oil is a versatile product.
BTW, knocking out the middle and lower class is EXACTLY what the "powers-that-be" want. The more you have to struggle, the less you are self-conscious and awake enough to do something about the gates closing in and locking us up.

From my website, TheGasGame.com:
OK. Its official. I'm furious about this oil market and the way speculators are fueling the market. Morgan Stanley predicted $150 by July 4. THATS THE MAJOR FACTOR pushing prices higher. Sure jobless claims went up, meaning possibly lower demand, and the Dollar stumbled, but honestly, the market is up WHY? We aren't attacking Iran, we aren't having higher demand, etc! Its so unbelievably infuriating to me I just had to vent. I just want to tell Morgan Stanley AND Goldman Sachs to stop being so unreasonable. Their forecasting is a HUGE conflict of interest.
Should I predict $5 oil? Would that make prices drop $100?
This oil market right now is so ridiculous. NO REFINERY OR DEMAND NEWS other than demand is WAY down, and the market is WAY up based SOLELY ON A PREDICTION.
Having said that, we've seen a 17 cent drop Wednesday, a 15 cent hike Thursday, and today we're at another 18 cent hike. Before today, I would have predicted $4.19, but with today's unreasonable gain, expect $4.35-$4.39. Stations will likely try to raise prices before Speedway does across the board. We may see Speedway raise this afternoon. This for them is likely an emergency situation. They elected NOT to raise prices today, but after the market closes today, unless they raise prices, they'll likely be losing 20-40 cents per gallon.
Fill up and let your Government Representatives know that you're upset about today's situation.

So someone simply makes a forecast and all hell breaks loose. But in the end, what do they care? They are making money off of it, so to hell with everyone else.

Guy here in the office said oil is trading for something like $138/bar right now- up from something like $125/bar earlier today.
And kansei, public transportation isn't as developed in some parts of the country. Where I'm at, if I took a combination of the bus and light rail to get to work, it would probably add an additional 3 hours of commuting time to get to and from work everyday. That's not a reasonable sacrifice for me.
Car pooling is an option, but I have 2 kids in daycare. If they get sick while at daycare, they need to be picked up ASAP. If I rode with someone else to work that day, then I would have to take their car and then getting them home from work would be challenging. Again, not a reasonable sacrifice for me.
And high gas prices aren't only felt at the pump. Prices for all products have been going up. With the increase in ethanol production and the increase in diesel prices, has anyone noticed the increase in the cost of a gallon of milk? Like I said, I have 2 kids and we normally have 2 or 3 gallons of milk in the fridge that will last a week (my kids looooove milk).
At $10/gal in this country, you can be assured of a steep increase in crime. You may want to siphon the gas out of your tank each time you park it somewhere and take it with you so someone else doesn't steal it. I doubt my company would care if I had 5 gallons of gas under my desk.
Sure I could move closer to where I work, but the thousands of dollars I'd loose in equity in my house during this down turn in the real estate market would take a looooong time for the gas savings to make it worth while. And my company has several sites all over the city, moving closer to the one I'm at now might mean that I'm farther from the one I'll be at later.

It's so much easier for them to predict it to go up. It's more likely. Heaven forbid prices plummet. That'd just be speculative bullshit.

Well said....with kids and a house (especially in this market) it is much tougher to just up and move and even carpool. I have entertained the thought of carpooling but I never know if I will get a call from Tam saying one of the kids is hurt or sick and she can't get out of the office to get them.
As for moving, I could sell the house (and hope to break even or make a few bucks) but to save any kind of substantial money we would be moving to a smaller house with on street parking and our son would have to change schools. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying it can't be done but we don't live in a Mcmansion by any means. We have a very modest 1200sf ranch (with 1200sf basement) with 3br 2ba a one car garage and 1/4 acre. For me to save roughly $300 a month on my mortgage we would be fitting 4 people a dog and a cat into a 800 to 900sf home with maybe 3br 1ba no garage etc.
We work hard for what we have and it pisses me off that someone can sit there and forecast a price which drives the market crazy in turn raising prices on virtually everything we buy with no concern for how it may affect others.

It's not just about US demand, it's demand worldwide. And in developing countries, like China, demand has skyrocketed.

China AND India. And partly because oil is traded in US dollars and the value of the dollar has been slipping on the global market lately.
The latest cause for speculation is probably from Isreal saying they will attack Iran if they continue to develop nuclear weapons- and that the US will support any attack if they do.

Yeah, and also the fact that Iran now refuses to trade oil with US currency doesn't help either. I think they now use the Euro, which is likely a reason the US dollar has slipped in value compared to it lately.

If america EVER had a cause to go to war for someone else's business it would be Israel.
We have declared Israel as our strongest ally in the eastern world. They've actually ASKED for our help (unlike Iraq/Afghanistan).
It's not like Israel is asking for anything other than their right to exist. I don't think that's too much to ask.
but to put it in perspective for the rest of you...
How would you guys feel if Canada said they were going to wipe the US off the planet and they actually had the weaponry to do it. Wouldn't you want your big brother to "have your back"?? I sure as hell would.

Yeah, not to get this in a tussle or anything, but the perspective of Israel is that they weren't a nation at all until after WWII.
WWI - Rothschild Zionist funds both sides, part of the aftermath is the British occupation of the middle east, approx. where Israel is now.
WWII - Rothschild Zionist funds both sides, tricks the U.S. to enter the fray to sway the war, and part of the treaties created (Balfour Declaration) call for the creation of the nation of Israel.
Today - The Zionist movement continues with domination, using the military might of the U.S. to do its bidding.
These are straight up facts.

how do you think i would feel if one day the US decided that canada is apart of america, and they just move on up without regard? they take over it all and then give back a few pieces of land here and there. what are the odds that we can win against a powerhouse like the USA? not very good. after 50 some odd years of this, of course your gonna get some angry people, that want want things as they were before. but with the support and weaponry that the US has, there isnt much you can do.
you know guy...that one line of your can really open up some cans.

Ok, more back on topic. I went to www.detroitgasprices.com to try and find cheap 93 somewhere close. I have to say I was disappointed by that site. It makes me wonder if gas station owners just sign up and post bogus prices to try and attract people to their stations.
Also, on 247 a member posted a listing of all the gas stations in Wayne County (where I live) that either failed an octane test, had too much water content, or didn't dispense said amount of fuel. The list is 7 pages long. Makes you wonder why Michigan hasn't imposed some type of annual standard evaluation instead of the current complaint based system.

Gas light came on this morning. I think the station by my house is still at $3.89. The stations near work are at $3.94 with some as high as $3.99. I have to run an errand at lunch....... wonder if I can do that and make it back home...... It's about 15 miles home plus however many miles my errand takes up. Should be able to. I've got about 10 miles on since the gas light turned on.
