Grand Rapids, Mich-- A new Mazda community was born a week ago and has been flourishing due to its openness and partially due to the fact the site is not a money making operation.

It was originally founded by an enthusiast himself who was sick of having to find an online community to call home. Many pooled together and donated to open The Mazda Forum, an online Mazda Community.

While there are many other Mazda Communities, The Mazda Forum hopes to set itself apart due to the fact it is run 100% by Mazda enthusiasts and not anyone who simply places ads and collects revenue to make a profit.

The Mazda Forum would publicly like to thank the following for their support:

Marc Gerth $20.00 USD
Jose V Wiswell $20.00 USD
Christopher Lauretano $50.00 USD
Robert Buelt $20.00 USD
Blake Cullum $50.00 USD
Design Solutions $70.00 USD
Jonathon Mullis $50.00 USD
Brian Mundy $20.00 USD
Patrick DeHaan $50.00 USD
Will DeWitt $15.00 USD
Tony $15.00 USD
SATimko $10.00 USD
TOTAL $340 USD

THANKS GUYS! Without you, this place wouldn't exist!

Can a donation to you guys be used for tax purposes??

I would think we'd legally need to be registered federally as a nonprofit? I dunno.

If you get audited it isn't my problem lol

p.s. I'm totally going to put it as a deduction haha

Q. Does my business need a federal tax ID number?

A. Any business offering products or services that are taxed in any way must get a federal tax ID number. If your state taxes personal services, or if you are required to collect sales taxes on your sales, you need a federal tax ID number. All the government forms you will be required to file for your business will require either a Social Security number or a tax ID number.

It's safe to say that any business that has employees and/or pays any kind of taxes will need a federal tax ID.

Since we don't offer a taxed product or service, looks like we aren't required to have one...

so maybe we just need some sort of non-profit status..

I think we're going to have to get way more complicated than its worth it to claim your donation on your taxes. I'd have to apply for an EIN, THEN get approved for non-profit status.

p.s. I'm totally going to put it as a deduction haha

herein lies the problem. unless we are a registered non-profit, you'd be filing a deduction (under your own risk of being audited) for a non-registered organization.

Futhermore, we never claimed to be a "registered" (tax legal) non-profit. ;)

TheMazdaForum's disclosure of being "non-profit" doesn't necessarily mean this organization is a registered non-profit, our use of "non-profit" simply states that all donated money is not kept by one individual user; the money donated from select members is redistributed among many members in the form of promotional items.

Wow, sound "real" enough? :D

wouldn't make a difference for me.. I only worked full time 3 months in 2007 and spent over 40,000 on tuition alone :P I don't really need deductions of any sort :P

kansei

Remember, the first $10 you sent was to the wrong address, so it never was accepted :) when you got home after work, I received that $10 :thumb:
