Each January racing's greatest stars pack their bags and head to Daytona for their chance to tackle North America's most prestigious sports car race - the Rolex 24 at Daytona. In 2007, more than 100 championships were represented, making the Rolex 24 at Daytona the ultimate gathering of racing's who's who.

My brother and I went last year and had an excellent time. The SpeedSource RX8s were absolutely awesome. If you want to see great racing and some of motorsports' biggest names, this is where you want to be.

Unfortunately, you can't camp out Friday night (they apparently kick everyone out), but we can either share a hotel room or 2, or camp out somewhere else around Daytona. The plan as I see it is to take Friday and Monday off of work, drive down early Friday morning, use Friday afternoon / evening to get supplies, get to the speedway first thing Saturday morning to set up camp, then of course, hang out all day Saturday, camp out that night, and most of the day Sunday.

2 Day Ticket, Event Hat (heeey!) and infield parking / camping - $45 if you pre-order.

For a 24 Hour event? Don't think you can beat it!

Who's in?

well, since there's been virtually no interest expressed so far, I haven't booked a hotel room for a bunch of folks. I'm staying in my brother's dorm room @ Embry Riddle for Thursday / Friday night. We're going to get supplied / packed up on Friday night, and we're going to get there as gates open on Saturday. We're going to shoot for NASCAR 3/4 again, where we were last year. Nice open camp spot. Look for a Blue P5 and a Silver VW Jetta wagon w/ a tarp strung up between them ;)

If you want, I can PM you my phone number so we can meet up day of.

EDIT: It's a bit more than a week...

I'm sorry, I didn't understand your first question. Yes, you get to pick where within the designated infield parking / camping areas you can stay. Last year, we were right around NASCAR 3/4, 1 or 2 'rows' back from the track. Really nice camp site. It'll be better with a few extra tents / cars to sort of circle the wagons ;). We're planning on finding a spot w/ a fire pit. We're definitely bringing fire wood for that night. I should also have a gas grill and a cooler or 2 with adult and non-adult beverages ;)

I can't promise food for everyone but my group, however y'all are more than welcome to borrow the grill (assuming I have it).
