ok, i pretty much finalized my fuel map with my pacific set up with the ss afc, but i was wondering something.

some times the car will experience some spikes with leaning. for example, i will be driving normally everything seems fine. when i get into wot, sometimes the car does not want to go into open loop. sometimes the car will immediatly go into open loop and sometimes i have to let off because the air fuel ratios are not changing.

i also notice my air fuel ratios not being consistant. most of the times they are around 11.5 to 12.0, but sometimes id see a number of 12.5. only sometimes. all these problems happend when my car was NA as well, so it can not be my maps or the protege ecu's. the car did the same thing with the mp3 ecu and the msp ecu.

could it be my primary 02 sensor? since closed and open loop makes the switch over with the ss afc, do you think that could be the problem.

i do not use my IAT sensor. i didnt use it for my na set up or my current set up, i just zip tied to my maf sensor. so not using my IAT sensor, could that be the problem?

this stuff only happens occasionally so its kind of annoying. any input would help. im going to call ken if i can not figure it out.

How lean are you seeing? 12.5 isn't too lean for lower rpms @ WOT under boost.

My car definitely exhibits this same flaky behavior with the transition into boost. Sometimes it's awesome, sometimes it leaves much to be desired (i.e. feels slower than before it went into boost, and the air/fuel ratios are richer than usual)

lets see, what similarities are there between our setups.. well my IAT sensor is zip tied like 4" away from the air filter. My primary oxygen sensor was replaced a little over a year ago, it's a bosche not OEM. I can't comment on air/fuel ratios on my N/A setup since I didn't have the wideband hooked up before I turbocharged the car.

Major difference of course is that I don't have the ssafc, just an unflashed MSP ecu.

it just seems to be inconsistant my readings. when i first made the map it was sick, not my stuff is all over the place. would buying a new sensor fix it?

What Mazda ECU are you running now?

msp

Unflashed I'm guessing? The inconsistent behaviour seems to be common with them.

its not a big deal, there just small leaps. nothing dangerous to the car, just anoying.

im going to make a few more changes when i come home this weekend and be fine with it. i was just curious to see if anyone else was experience the same stuff.

and my mp3 ecu did the same stuff as the msp ecu with the ss afc. so i do not think it is the msp ecu.

yea thats it, spikes to around 12.5, thats why i am not worried. but i can fix that spike. the real concern i had was that SOMETIMES the car would not switch over to open loop right away like it usually does. it usually happens in second gear.

just when i pin it, most of the time the car would imediatly go into open loop once it goes into boost ( the way the ss afc is set to) but sometimes it does not happen. ill call splitsecond and see what they say.

the guy from split second said there could be something wrong with the box, but he does not think so because it does not do that all the time.

i told him about the IAT sensor and i have it dangling in the engine bay. he said that can play a big factor. so ill drill a hole for it in my intake piping and ill let you guys know what happens. thanks

I would not worrying about it. as long as you're still using the stock ECU, tuning is going to be a pain in the ass and you'll never have it run perfect.
