View Full Version : Poll: Selling fees/Paypal/Proof of ownership

----------------------------------------------

A poll:

We may require the seller NOT PASS ALONG an additional X% as "Paypal fees". Should we REQUIRE that the "selling price" is the FINAL SELLING PRICE?

IE- I sell something for $150 but Paypal makes me pay 3% fee. Do you want the seller to do it the 150+3% OR 154.50 from the get go?

Also, I think we really should start requiring proof of current ownership, most likely in the form of a placard in the image (similar to other forums).

Lets call this the "FS Thread legislation".

If approved, sellers would be required within ONE DAY of posting a FS thread to have images AND the seller would NOT be allowed to tack on a 3% fee onto the agreed selling price. The seller must set the price higher from the beginning instead.

I really like having a pic with a handwritten sign in it with user, the specific forum, and the date being used, too. It just helps prevent the easiest scamming. But the question at hand, yes, all fees up front, not tacked on.

Agreed. SIgn is good as well as no additional fees. Post the price and go

I don't see why anyone would go against this!?!

iLisa

all fees posted up front.. the ad should include the "final price" with any fees, that would be included, listed in the ad.

But remember we don't wanna turn into Nazis closing threads down and such. Just something to keep in mind.

thats why I'm allowing a day between posting and requiring pics. I know it a PITA sometimes, but then just wait to post til u have pics :)

^is agreed. Don't post it if ya don't have the pics of it. Wait a day then post.

i heartily agree to the proposition. i dont want to have to figure out paypal fees on top of what ever is listed - it never works out right anyway. i like the idea of pictures with "proof" too. dont have a digital camera? go to walmart and spend the $15 to get one. (or borrow one) if you are in that much of a hurry to sell, it will sell quicker with pics.

sumo_bob
05-01-2008, 01:55 PM
agreed. I think that any fixed fees (like paypal) should be put in the upfront cost, unless the seller is eating that fee. Shipping of course is one of those things that can vary, so of course it isn't subject to this legislation (as long as seller checks shipping prices before a sale is agreed upon).

And as we continue to grow, we'll need to modify some rules and make certain new ones. As long as it's discussed in the plain view of the community, and all have a proper say.

BTW, you should probably make a sub-forum named "Forum Legislation"

I am all for it. Having a pic with the sign is reassuring to the buyer. As for the fees, just list the price you want. Then all you have to worry about is shipping.

not sure if its still like this, but i know that when i used paypal back in the day it was strictly against their policy to pass on the fee to the end customer

i know everyone does it anyways, but technically its grounds to have your account closed

how are they going to find out, unless you have a "check-out" set-up through them, and tack it on there. if its a sale between two parties, and all you're doing is shuffling money, they'll never know.

I don't see why anyone would go against this!?!

some people hate using paypal and would rather you send them a money order, so they tack the fee on if you pay them with paypal.

I just laugh when someone charges the paypal fees on top of the asking price but then it turns out they have a paypal personal account and with that, aren't charged fees (and can only accept e-check and instant bank transfer, no credit cards)

plus more specific details of it condition. I bought a cf a-pillar. No where in the pics could I see the damage. It was cracked the hellup. I was pissed but just ate the bullet. And the seller did say it was used but didn't mention the extensive damage. I'm just saying pictures are decieving.

Just another person added to my hate list so when I'm old and senile I got the list to remind who needs an a$$ whoppin

OK I wont post the poll because this is a win/loose for me

Here is the FACTS..

PAYPAL states that ALL paypal fees are that of the SELLER. IF the seller asks for the purchaser to pay the paypal fees then paypal WILL close the account because that is in DIRECT violation of the paypal rules and is against the law

Paypal is a fortune for the SELLER.. Paypal was made for the SELLER to get funds quicker, safer and thats why..

As for pictures I have no problem with that however VENDORS should not be tied to this because as you all know I sell HUNDREDS of items.. little do I actually have at my house.

NOW any used item that anyone puts up SHOULD have a pic (including vendors) and NON vendor should have to post pics of any new or used parts..

There is a benifit to being a Vendor.. and a certian amount of TRUST that we have to give all our vendors...

However more then anyone I put Vendors on a higher pedistal and the mistakes they make bite harder..

pro5x2
05-02-2008, 09:39 AM

I'm down with this idea. Although the sign may be a PITA sometimes, it's for everyone's safety and that's all that counts.

As for the PayPal fees, sellers just have to get used to it. It's a small fee that you pay for the service you receive. It is by far the easier way to send and receive money and I see nothing wrong with being charged the fee for security and convenience. There's no reason why buyers should have to pay them.

SpooledupRacing
05-02-2008, 09:46 AM
the one thing I was trying to say is that Vendors who screw a customer should be punished with losing their vendor status on the first try...

With p2p sellers you have to really understand what ould have happened etc to make a good call but with vendors there is NO excuse they are held to a higher degree if they mess up!

SpooledupRacing
05-02-2008, 09:49 AM
Yeah illbe honest if a seller tells me they want me to cover their fees I will tell them no and then I WILL NOT buy from them at all... thats the way I work.. I will give up on somethign I really want because to me thats a slap in the face... I can buy a money order and mail a money order for less then covering THEIR fees.

Paypal is great its fast and easy but why do sellers want payapl so bad BECAUSE THEY GET MONEY NOW..

its a small cost to pay to get some coin..

Look at me.. I do these kick ass deals I cover my fees AND I cover shipping almost always... I dont make alot but then again its the way I do business...

I just put up a round figure and don't worry about the fees. Depending on the item, I will post a shipped price or price plus shipping.

I do find it funny when people will post a selling price of $43.16 (grabbed out of the air) which will cover the price they want plus paypal fees. Either sell it for $40 and take a little less or sell it for $45, make a little more and the buyer wont even know.

man, did you spill pop on your keyboard? that caps lock is on a lot ;) lol

Here's the deal.
I'm not sure demanding the 3% is against any law, they do it at some gas stations in the form of "cash price" and "credit price"... its against Paypal's TOU, but people still do it all the time.

As for pictures, if its new, vendors won't be required to list an image. If it is USED, I think it be fair to ask for a picture and require it.

Hows that...

I am not yelling at anyone in particular...

I have been doing this shit for years and the amount of B.S I have taken from purchasers and sellers is enough to drive a man insane..
I over paid for an item once and gave the guy his paypal fees he demanded for.. I have yet to receive my parts or money..

that was 2 years ago.. I lost 850.00 on that deal

last year I made a guy a hell of a deal on some shit (made 50.00) I sent it to him (in canada) his bank declined his transfer (even though I was givin the money and it was completed) paypal stripped me of the money and I lost my good and my money..
