http://jalopnik.com/assets/resources/2008/04/2008-Shelby-GT500KR.jpgWhile we haven't had a chance to drive the new 2008 Mustang Shelby GT500KR (http://jalopnik.com/tag/Shelby-GT500KR/), others have. Our friends at Popular Mechanics spent some time behind the wheel of the new Shelby GT500KR (http://www.popularmechanics.com/blogs/automotive_news/4261388.html) and have come away with some driving impressions of the purported "King of the Road." After reading their final take on the KR as well as those from other outlets, we're beginning to think maybe "Prince" might have been a better name for it. Unless of course "King" is being used to mean "King's Ransom" — then the naming convention makes sense given the stratospheric $80,000 price for a ridiculously high horsepower car with a solid axle and a propensity to only go in a straight line. While we'd never call this Mustang a "Sally" and we'll obviously stop short from saying the 2008 Mustang Shelby GT500KR sucks (http://jalopnik.com/tag/Shelby-GT500KR/), we're pretty sure there's better cars you could probably buy for the money. But that's just our take on it. Check out the full review from the Mechanics who are quite Popular here:

Buy a Z-06 and be done with it.
Mustangs have become a big, fat joke.

My in-laws have a pair of the 2007 GT500s. The HP is impressive, and those
ones are only 500HP. They handle well enough to cruise around on the weekend,
not that I drove it down any windy mountain roads or anything, but I would be
happy to own one of these.

My father-in-law also has an '01 Roush Stage 3 mustang with a smaller pully and a chip upgrade. I haven't driven it since the pully and the chip, but at the time it made my p5 feel like I was driving a john deere.

For $80K, I'd have a fully forged and built turbo'd pro5 and a sick FD

my first ride was a 65 mustang with a 200 straight six. Swapped a 250 head onto it. Had a three-on-the-floor tranny and that thing could crank itself sideways in the street no problem. You know how in old movies you see a car take a turn at a relatively high speed and lose a hubcap? Yup, it happens, can't tell you how many times i stopped to search for those pieces of crap in the high grass. LOL.

'65 Mustang 200 CID Inline 6 was my second car. Slow, handled like a barge in good conditions, and like a saucer disc in the snow. But fun times.
The one in the pic is supposed to be a 64 1/2.
